Inpatient Family Counseling and Education

Because Addiction is a family disease, New Beginnings Minnesota highly encourages family members to be involved in the patient’s treatment and recovery process.

It has been determined that substance abuse by one addict affects ten other people. Therefore, we offer involve families throughout the treatment process in family education, prevention, and ongoing support. This helps rebuild healthy relationships as part of the recovery process.

Family educational and support topics include: disease progression; family response to the illness; communication skills; patient relapse prevention and the continuum of patient care planning.

Family Program Details

Clients and family typically attend the Family Program during the second week of the client’s stay with some exceptions due to patient volume and a family’s ability to participate. This is a one-day program from 9:15 am to 4 pm, with registration starting at 8:45 am. Breaks and box lunches will be provided.

All invited guests must RVSP, as spaces are limited.

All families are required to check in at the main site located at 109 North Shore Drive in Waverly. And all families (both for male and female clients) then attend the Family Program on the main campus.

If you have questions, call our Family Coordinator 763-658-5810.

Nancy Lewis has a Masters degree and is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor as well as a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist.
